Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 21, 2025
Standout ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our AI-powered writing assistant at trystandout.com (the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Account and Profile Data
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture (via our authentication provider, Clerk). We use this to personalize your experience, manage your account, and communicate with you about the Service.
Voice Profiles and Content
To help drafts sound like you, we store your voice profile, including sample posts, tone preferences, and writing guidelines you provide. We also store your drafts, ideas, and knowledge base content so you can retrieve and refine them.
Integration Data
If you connect third-party services, we receive the data those integrations are designed to share. This includes:
- Slack: Channel messages, threads, and conversations you authorize us to access
- Google Workspace: Meeting transcripts from Google Meet, calendar event details, and other Google Workspace data based on the permissions you grant
- Fireflies: Meeting transcripts and summaries
- Uploaded documents: Files you directly upload to Standout
We use integration data solely to surface content ideas and provide context for your posts within Standout. We do not sell integration data.
Google Account Data
If you connect your Google account, we access Google user data only within the scopes you explicitly authorize (for example, Google Meet transcripts or Google Calendar events). We use this data solely to surface content ideas and provide context for your posts within Standout.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only use Google data to provide and improve the Standout features you interact with.
- We do not transfer Google data to third parties except as necessary to provide the Service, as required by law, or with your explicit consent.
- We do not use Google data for advertising or to serve ads.
- We do not allow humans to read Google data except with your explicit consent, for security purposes, to comply with law, or when data is aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
When you disconnect your Google account from Standout, we delete the associated Google data within 30 days.
Usage and Technical Data
We collect logs of API requests, errors, page views, and basic usage patterns to maintain reliability, debug issues, and understand how features are used. This includes IP addresses, browser type, device information, and referring URLs. We use Vercel Analytics and may use other third-party analytics services to measure product usage.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and authentication state. We may also use analytics cookies to understand how people use the Service. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Provide the Service: generate drafts, personalize your voice profile, surface ideas, and run integrations
- Maintain and improve the Service: fix bugs, improve features, and develop new functionality
- Communicate with you: send account notifications, respond to support requests, and share product updates
- Ensure security: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
- Comply with legal obligations
We may use aggregated or de-identified data to improve our models and product. We do not use your content to train publicly available AI models without your explicit consent.
3. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We share your data only with service providers who help us operate Standout. These include:
- Clerk for authentication and account management
- Anthropic (Claude) for AI-powered content generation. Your content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Per Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through the API is not used to train their models.
- Vercel for hosting and infrastructure
- Stripe for payment processing (if applicable)
These providers are bound by contractual agreements that limit how they may use your data. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
When you publish content to LinkedIn or other platforms through Standout, those platforms have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account data, voice profiles, drafts, and integration data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service.
You may delete individual drafts or revoke integrations at any time through your account settings. When you revoke an integration, we stop receiving new data from that service and delete the previously received data within 30 days.
To request full account deletion, contact us at wecare@trystandout.com. Upon receiving your request, we will delete your account and associated data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal, security, or regulatory purposes (for example, billing records or fraud prevention). We will inform you if any such exception applies.

8. Children
Standout is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
